  1. Aloha

Your voice is pleasant to the ear. Music is nice in every episode, too. I can feel wind of beautiful Hawaii when I’m always listening to 808Talk. Thanks!

  2. I heard about your site while listening to dr trey’s podcast. I’ve been listening to your past and present podcast episodes for a week straight. Many times you mention that you would like to hear feedback and ideas for a contest. Here are my suggestions:

    1. Your co-hosts don’t often have the same energy and enthusiasm as you. Lately you haven’t had any co-hosts and I think the shows are better without any co-hosts. You have interest, intelligent comments. Your hosts often drain energy and don’t have anything intelligent to say. Even when you ask them for a comment, I can sense that they don’t really know what they are talking about. So, my #1 msuggestion for you: drop the co-hosts.

    2. Be careful with sensitive topics. You have touched sensitive topics, like politics and traditions, and I think it is quite OK to talk about them. However, you should be very sensitive when talking about stuff like that.

    3. Give a positive point of view. People who listen to your podcast, want to open a window to the paradise world. I have never been in Hawaii and I envy you guys. I signed up for Dr. Trey’s podcast, and subsequently yours because I wanted to experience (second hand, if that’s the best thing possible) what Hawaii is like. You have corrected some of my wrong ideas about Hawaii. It actually is a real place, with cities, and not everybody walks around in a straw skirt. I was surprised to hear that “only” 10% of the people are tourists. I thought it would be more like 40%. So you are doing a great job, however sometimes your only news are negative. For example the show with Dr. Trey and JRoc. You talked about the teen girls forced to prostitute. (By the way, JRoc’s comments were weird…) So my suggestion is, end with a positive note. We all hear the morbid stories on TV news. When I listen to podcasts about the paradise, I want to be uplifted, I want to escape for a moment to a new world. So make your news positive.

    4. I loved the idea of your on-site episode. Even thought eh whole drinking conversation was strange (your co-hosts again), I liked the idea of going to a location and describing it. You could interview and feature local people and services. For example, visit a shaved ice shack (I heard they put some kinds of beans in it?), or a luaua, or the Waikiki beach (you talk a lot about it) or Hana Lima ‘Ia ukulele building school (I bought ukulele building plans from them), etc. I understand that you do this for fun and without sponsors, so it is hard to put more hours in it, but it would be fun to hear more in-situ interviews and descriptions.

    5. My suggestions for your contest:
Make people submit a hawaiian song they sang. THen play them in your podcast, and pick the best.
Ask people to send in stories of their best experience in Hawaii. Or a love story, etc. THen, pick the best one. Feature the best ones on air.
Ask people to send in their best picture of Hawaii.

you could use all these in your podcasts, for example by featuring one song or story or picture per show. That way the listeners would help you in producing material for your show.

I write this note because I like your show. Thanks for doing it, I understand it requires a lot of dedication. I “produced” a podcast for my son, and it was hard. He only did three episodes (a commentary about his football team’s games). but it was plenty of work.

    Good Job!

  3. I am absolutely stupified by your podcast. I think it is one of the best podcasts I have ever heard and I am completely addicted. Your love for Hawaii is evident and envious. At times while in Seattle when it is raining, I listen to your podcast and I am completely uplifted.

Your inclusion of the local arts scene, including music that is free from the RIAA nonsense is absolutely spot-on. I thank you, because I know that I would not hear anything like this anywhere else.

Every Sunday I listen to your podcast, usually one week behind so that I am guaranteed of a podcast available. Now my wife is into listening to your show and it is a permanent staple in our diet.

Please, keep up the good work and I think that the recent review was completely wrong. I would rate you a 4.5/5, with 5/5 going to TWIT.TV by Leo Laporte. My ranking is really saying something, considering that Laporte is a broadcast veteran with over $100k in equipment and access to many celebrities. The sound quality of your podcast is on par with Laporte’s, the content is second to none and you really went spot on with the 20-30 minute time frame to avoid boredom. There is absolutely no dead-air on your podcast which is really quite amazing.

Additionally, I really think that you could carry the show alone. You are very enthusiastic and the level of the show is very high. A co-host is fine, as I think that it may give you a break, but you are great solo.

Again, thank you so much for the podcast. I cannot wait to come to Hawaii and I would love to meet you if both me and my wife get there.

    Sincerely,

    Rick
