  1. Your comments on potholes was very timely - I listen to podcasts to and from work, and this morning (Wed 19 July) I fired up the iPod to 808Talk. You were wrong in one respect - that potholes are mostly caused by snow here on the mainland, when in fact Southern California is a meca for potholes also. In todays San Diego Union Tribune there is an article about Tijuana purchasing a pothole filling truck that is in use in many countries. Potholes can be filled fast and with little manpower before they become large problems. The article is a good read siting studies that infrastructure falling apart is an indication of bigger underlying problems (like San Diego going bankrupt) Maybe you can forward this information to the government boneheads so they can get a clue - here are the links:

  2. Kai,

Thank you for the comment. You are absolutely right about not only snow being the cause of potholes. I guess I was just referencing the snow part because where I grew up it seemed like the potholes multiplied after the snow came down, but yes there are many other contributions to potholes. I like your comments about they could mean an early sign of other problems and the links you provided are great. I think I’ll take your advice and forward those to my government officials. Mahalo again for the comment and for downloading 808Talk.
