Hey Vernon, thanks for the show.
Personally, I don’t think Hawaii needs a Superferry. Part of the charm is that the Islands are seperated, I don’t blame the Kauai residents for their frustration but as you say, do it with respect, not like a bunch of jackals because it won’t get you anywhere and if anything it makes residents of Kauai look bad. You can peacefully get your message across here…
When I go to the Islands I will plan to visit two Islands, I personally would rather hop on a plane and rent a car, and if I’m visiting Maui i’ll likely get a nice convertable, but if i’m going to visit The Big Island a couple of days I’d want a 4×4… so even if I could bring a car on a ferry to another Island, will that car be fit for what I want to do on another Island?
I just don’t really like the Ferry idea as a whole for Hawaii personally.
Here’s how I make Spam Musubi way over here in Canada.
1 can of spam
Sushi Rice
Sushi Seaweed, Cut into strips
Soy Sauce
Sugar
-Cut spam in 1 cm slices and brown both sides (Keep the Can!)
-Marinate cooked spam in Soy Sauce and sugar mixture
-Cook your Sushi Rice and once cooked pack about 2.5 inches or so into the Spam can and press in so it’s solid and firm, next squeeze the spam can and turn upside down so the rice block comes out nice.
-Take a slice of sushi wrap, enough to be able to hold the spam and rice together and place down on a sheet of plastic wrap for preparation of final product.
-Place marinated Spam in the center of the Sushi strip and then place the rice on top of that.
-Quickly wrap the Sushi wrap strip around the entire Spam Musubi so everything is together and wrap the plastic wrap around it to seal everything in.
-Let sit 5 minutes in Plastic wrap, and Enjoy!
Aloha!
@Jordon - Another nice recipe! Wow you’re totally ready for Hawaii. So when’s the move?
Another great podcast! Great music by Darin Leong too! Mahalo V. Brown!
I think i’ll need a few years work experience here before I make the move. Call it a long term goal..
But for now, I get it done with things like that. Spam Musubi is great though. They’re like a meal in itself.
For those that don’t know what it is, if you’ve been to Hawaii and been to any convenience store… they’re the odd sushi looking things that may not smell the best but if you have the taste for Spam… they are delicious!
When I was in Japan we had a “Spam Musubi Party” one night. Man our friends loved that stuff!! Can of spam, rice, seaweed, and some furikake….What a great combo!!
