Spam Musubi - Canadian Style

Spam Musubi - Canadian Style

Here’s another recipe from one of our 808Talk listeners, Jordon, who posted his Spam Musubi recipe all the way from Canada. While Spam Musubi is a great favorite in Hawaii, this just goes to show that it can also influence and be enjoyed throughout the world. This original recipe was posted in response to our show 808T E.122 - Lanai, Not Just Pineapples. Mahalo to Jordon in Canada!

Here’s how I make Spam Musubi way over here in Canada.

1 can of spam
Sushi Rice
Sushi Seaweed, Cut into strips
Soy Sauce
Sugar

-Cut spam in 1 cm slices and brown both sides (Keep the Can!)

-Marinate cooked spam in Soy Sauce and sugar mixture

-Cook your Sushi Rice and once cooked pack about 2.5 inches or so into the Spam can and press in so it’s solid and firm, next squeeze the spam can and turn upside down so the rice block comes out nice.

-Take a slice of sushi wrap, enough to be able to hold the spam and rice together and place down on a sheet of plastic wrap for preparation of final product.

-Place marinated Spam in the center of the Sushi strip and then place the rice on top of that.

-Quickly wrap the Sushi wrap strip around the entire Spam Musubi so everything is together and wrap the plastic wrap around it to seal everything in.

-Let sit 5 minutes in Plastic wrap, and Enjoy!

Aloha!
