Mokulele Airlines The New Aloha?

Mokulele Airlines The New Aloha?

Mokulele Airlines, a privately owned commuter airline based in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, announced that it will expand its interisland service which will bring former Aloha Airlines employees back to work.

Mokulele airlines is expanding to a larger fleet of 70-seat Embraer 170 Regional Jets in a partnership with Republic Airways, which will add dozens of daily flights between Honolulu, Kauai and Kona. The announcement came as a sigh of relief to several hundred former Aloha Airlines employees who Mokulele has embraced and welcomed to the family.

So does all this mean Mokulele is the new Aloha? Hmmm…just a thought.

Mokulele’s president, Bill Boyer says, “I had an emotional talk with Aloha Airlines over here, and more than 50% of my workforce is going to be Aloha Airlines…”

This new move is being funded through a $150 million dollar partnership with mainland carrier Republic Airways, who remains one of a handful of profitable US airlines. Republic owns the aircraft Mokulele will operate, and has offered parts and assistance in the new expansion.

The new Mokulele interisland service is set to launch November 19, with prices starting at $61. Mokulele says they will not initiate a fare war in the way that GO! Airlines did, but will remain competitive and offer a high quality service for island residents and visitors.
