The Bishop Estate – Kamehameha Schools
Prior to her death, Ke Ali’i (princess) Pauahi being childless and having no heirs, was the last of the Kamehameha’s. With the help of her husband, Charles Reed Bishop, she setup a will and trust for the use of her estate to provide education for the Native Hawaiian children. Her will created the Kamehameha Schools in honor of her grandfather “Kamehameha The Great.” Now all the children of Hawaii were hers. Along with the Oahu campus, the school has a campus on Maui and the Big Island. The Bishop Estate is the largest non-profit charity for education in the United States.
