Nonstop Honolulu: Eats, Nightlife, Events

The team of writers and photographers who produced Metromix Honolulu are back on the scene — this time with a new, independent Web site that covers eating, events and nightlife on Oahu. goes live on Monday, August 23 with photo galleries, restaurant reviews, party pics, event listings and blogs. New content will appear daily on the multimedia-rich site, with videos and a mobile app rolling out in coming weeks.

“We want to be Honolulu’s main online source for eating, nightlife and events. If there’s buzz, we’re on it,” said Diane Seo, the former Metromix Honolulu managing producer who brought the Nonstop team together. “Our coverage will be fun and innovative. It’ll appeal to people who like to find out what’s new, what’s best, what’s coming up.”

Seo drove the creation of Nonstop together with John Garcia, her former colleague and digital whiz at The Honolulu Advertiser. When the sale of the paper effectively shut down Metromix Honolulu — one of the top food and entertainment sites owned by Advertiser parent Gannett Co. — Seo and Garcia realized a new site was needed to fill the void.

One by one, the call went out to the core players of Metromix Honolulu, and everyone immediately agreed to contribute to the new site. Photographer Tracy Chan, former Metromix associate producer, is handling nightlife coverage; while Melissa Chang, Mari Taketa, Catherine Toth and Edward Morita — Metromix’s top food writers — will cover Honolulu’s eating scene. launches on Monday with cross-promotional partnerships with Hawaii News Now and InsideOut magazine.
