Tsunami Wave Hitting Kona, Hawaii
On March 11, 2011 Japan experienced an 8.9-magnitude quake which caused tsunami waves to form that swept across rice fields, engulfed entire towns, dragged houses onto highways, and tossed cars and boats around like toys. In Hawaii a tsunami warning was issue but damage was limited to small areas around the coastline.
Evacuation information and communications of school closures and other Civil Defense information throughout the islands was readily available at the #HItsunami tracking website http://hitsunami.info which was created and updated by @JohnGarcia, a local resident of Honolulu.
